Some individuals say that their health and digestion benefit from following Ayurvedic guidelines. For those who are interested, Ayurvedic guidelines for eating fruits and vegetables are described here.

Remember: it is always important to check with your own health practitioner before altering your diet. In addition, one key guideline is that it is important not to overeat these good-for-you foods.

And a general guideline: seek to wait a minimum of three hours between meals.

Variety is important, so Ayurvedic guidelines include selecting from a range of different vegetables and fruits rather than just concentrating on a few familiar favorites. For example, if someone reads that kiwi fruits and asparagus are particularly beneficial to the body and then eats primarily kiwis for their fruit intake and asparagus for their vegetable intake, that person is missing out on the opportunity to partake of all nutrients and tastes available only to those who consume a wide variety of fruits and vegetables.

These guidelines also encourage eating what appeals to you, as opposed to forcing yourself to eat garlic for breakfast and green onions before bed.
In addition, it’s important to eat the whole food rather than an extract or tablet form.

Although a raw food diet is currently considered chic, it is not necessarily the healthiest way to consume fruits and vegetables. Cooking vegetables may help you digest them more easily, and a stewed apple is a better way to begin your day than a cold, raw apple can provide. Although cooking is valuable, skip the charbroiled method, which may result in potential carcinogens.
